From silence to being heard

I'm Joanne, a psychology student training to become a counsellor. But before any of that, I was a kid who learned to be quiet. To take up less space. To carry shame like it was mine to hold.

I grew up in an unstable household where safety was never guaranteed. I was bullied, told I wasn't enough in a hundred different ways. So I became smaller, quieter. I disappeared into video games, plants, and weight training. Things that didn't judge me.

Healing happened slowly, and a lot of it came from learning that the patterns I carried weren't permanent. That it was possible to unlearn anxious ways of relating and build something more secure. At 33, I changed careers not because I had it figured out, but because I finally gave myself permission to do something that aligned with who I was becoming.

Why I do this work

I know what it's like to carry voices that tell you you're broken. To feel surrounded by people yet completely alone. And I know what it's like to slowly, painfully, beautifully discover that none of that was true. Being heard changed my life. That's what I want to offer you.

What I'm not

I'm not a therapist, psychologist, or licensed practitioner. I can't diagnose you, treat mental illness, or provide crisis intervention. What I will do is listen. Really listen. The kind that makes you feel less alone.

This is not clinical care

I'm a psychology student in training, not yet licensed. I can't provide psychotherapy, diagnose mental health conditions, prescribe treatment plans, or offer crisis intervention.

What I do offer is supportive conversation within the scope of a trained listener who's still learning. I'll always be honest about what I can and can't offer.

Cancellation policy

I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel. This allows me to offer that time to someone else.

  • 24+ hours notice: Full reschedule or refund, no questions asked
  • Less than 24 hours: The session fee is non-refundable. However, you are welcome to transfer your session to someone else who may benefit from it

You can reschedule directly through your confirmation email at any time.
